Ruperts Rainbow

baby Rupert rainbow photo shoot

Many of our local clients may have heard about a very special little boy called Rupert that has a rare genetic neurological condition called Alternating Hemiplegia of Childhood, (AHC), affecting about one child in a million.

We have been lucky enough to photograph Rupert and his brothers at the studio for a family portrait session. It was lovely to offer a moment of normality to his parents and brothers where they could just enjoy smiling and laughing for photographs and have a break from the worry that comes from having a baby with a neurological condition.

Since birth, Rupert has experienced seizures, paralysis, and frightening medical emergencies that have changed everyday life for him and his family. Rupert has regular seizures and has stopped breathing on a number of occasions, resulting in emergency admissions to hospital.

When Rupert was just seven-months, his mum had to administer CPR after he stopped breathing in a shop.

AHC has a long list of additional symptoms, from abnormal eye movements to developmental delays and cognitive impairment.

But because the condition is so rare little is known about it and there is currently no cure.

When Rupert's 1st Birthday was approaching we knew we wanted to do something to help raise awareness of his condition. Buildings at 63 locations across Wales, the UK and Canada lit up in rainbow colours to mark Rupert's first birthday.

We decided to do a window display for Rupert at our studio with a rainbow theme and little balloons as celebrating 1st Birthdays is close to our heart here at Dollimore Photography.

And of course we invited baby Rupert to our studio for his very own 1st Birthday Cake Smash Session. Just look at how well he did and how much he enjoyed his cake and bath splash at the end.

Why fundraising matters

Rupert's family is working urgently to access life-changing treatment in the United States and to give Rupert the best possible chance for a brighter future. Every donation, share, fundraiser, and introduction helps Rupert's Rainbow reach more people and brings Rupert closer to the treatment he needs.
